Our Hero

Charles Earl Marrs went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2014, at the VA Roseburg Healthcare System in Roseburg, OR., at the age of 82. He was the eldest of 7 children, born in Oklahoma; he was raised by his Grandparents in San Bernardino, CA. He served his Country in the U.S. Army during Korea and worked at Norton Air Force Base before joining the Electrical Union and becoming a sign hanger. He retired from sign hanging after an injury and the Union after more than 35 years as a member of the IBEW. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and racing stock cars. He started out at The Orange Show in San Bernardino, CA. racing 56’ Chevrolets and stayed with the sport as it evolved, becoming a car owner and racing at tracks in Las Vegas, NV., Bakersfield, CA., Ontario, CA., and Riverside Raceway, CA.; all the time having the time of his life. Fishing highlighted his quieter side, he would never say no to a day of drowning worms. He found his soul mate, Dolores, late in his life and after doing some traveling, some moving and some more traveling they settled in Roseburg, OR. He loved working in the yard and prided himself on maintaining it. He enjoyed visiting with friends and sitting out on his back porch watching the river roll by. He had several nicknames; Earl to the family back home in Arkansas, Chuck Chuck to the kids in Oregon or Chuck to us here in California, Honey to his wife, Dad or Daddy to his kids and Papa or Grandpa to his grandkids and great-grand kids. He had a big heart, a simple philosophy and an easy way about him that will be missed by all that knew him.
